5 Proven Ingredients for Fido’s Liver Health

• 2 min read

As a health-conscious dog parent, we’re sure you’ll agree that liver health is not only one of the most important areas of canine wellness there is, but also one of the most overlooked.

The liver has a variety of functions for man’s best friend, which includes detoxification, bile production, storing vitamins, metabolizing energy sources, and more. So, needless to say, the liver is called a “vital” organ for a reason!

Since liver health is long overdue for some time in the spotlight, we’re here to discuss five awesome ingredients that your dog’s liver will love the most.

Milk Thistle

This holistic herb is widely known as one of the best natural liver-supporting ingredients for us humans. But in recent years, studies have suggested that Milk Thistle may support animal liver function as well.

Milk Thistle (Silymarin) contains properties that has been shown to support the liver’s toxicity levels – making it a must-have for the next canine liver product you choose!

Dandelion

Who would’ve thought that such a beautiful household plant would become known for being one of the best liver supporting ingredients around?

A clinical assessment of Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) shows that this ingredient bolsters the liver’s bile production to help dogs eliminate waste from their digestive system, while also aiding the liver’s overall circulation.

Curcumin (from Turmeric)

Chances are, you’ve probably heard a lot of great things about Curcumin, the active ingredient found in Turmeric. It supports everything from joint health to digestion, but did you know it’s also beneficial for the liver?

A study shows that Curcumin helps to support overall liver function in animals, and also encourages healthy bile production for man’s best friend.

Choline

As an ingredient, Choline might not be as well-known as the Curcumin’s of the world, but what it lacks in notoriety it makes up for in effectiveness.

This essential nutrient is naturally produced in the body. In fact, a 2018 study indicates that maintaining adequate Choline levels may help to avoid fatty liver troubles for our canine companions. So, it’s important to consult a vet about your dog’s Choline levels to make sure their liver stays in tip-top shape.

N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)

The name of this ingredient doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but don’t let its complicated sounding name scare you!‌ N-Acetylcysteine (or NAC‌) is just a form of amino acid that may bolster your dog’s liver health.

It was found that N-Acetylcysteine contains powerful detoxifying properties that keep the liver operating in peak condition, so don’t forget to look for this amazing (and tongue-twisting) ingredient in Fido’s next liver health product!

As you can see, there are plenty of proven liver-supporting ingredients for ma’s best friend, so we hope this will be helpful! For dogs with pre-existing liver conditions, we always recommend consulting a veterinarian to help your pet based on their specific health factors. But, we're always happy to help you learn more about canine liver health, so feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below, by phone at (800) 940-1972, or bark@zestypaws.com.

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for your comment. While we currently do not offer free samples of our products, we do offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on our products. That is how confident we are that our chews will help! On our homepage, you will see two things: (1) we do offer select items in sample sizes for a great price and (2) there is a banner that states, “Join our newsletter and receive 15% off your first purchase.”

If you are looking for skin and coat support, consider our Salmon Oil and/or Omega Bites to help supply plenty of omega fatty acids. These really help bring the shine back to your dog’s coat. While our Multivitamin Bites will help some, they are more designed for overall wellness and may not target this enough.

We hope this helps and we look forward to serving you soon :)
