Five Ways to Celebrate National Pet Month

• 4 min read

We can’t imagine our lives without them. And you’re their whole world. That’s why spending National Pet Month with our Zesty Besties is so special.

Who are we kidding, though? Every day is pet day! But each May, it’s a special time when there’s extra focus on the wet kisses, whisker tickles and warm snuggles that our cats, dogs, chinchillas, bunnies, rabbits, snakes and other menagerie bring us.

We’ll focus today on FIVE paw-fect ways to spoil your pet and mark the meowy-ment with your dog or cat companions! (Do something a little extra for National Pet Week, which is May 2-8!)

Celebrate With Time

For many people, 2020 was a challenging time. But for our four-legged companions, it was a glorious era when Pet Parents were home for unlimited walks and computers were available to lay on at all hours of the day. As the world begins to transition to a post-pandemic life again, one of the best gifts you can offer your fur baby is continued time. Make those extra minutes in the morning and the evening special. Continue the rituals you had during the week on the weekends. It may take a little while to adjust back into a routine, but you’ll never regret the time you spend with them. Separation may cause your pets to feel tense as things change. Explore ways to keep your fur baby calm and composed during these times of transition.

Celebrate Outdoors

There’s no better place to spend that time than the great outdoors. As the weather warms up, it’s time to go on long dog walks to the dog parks, beaches and the cats to the … well, ok. For this one, maybe let’s just focus on the canine treks. (There ARE, we are told, some cats who will tolerate being walked on leashes.) Congrats to you, those bold Zesty Parents. If you are one of them, be SURE to share your avoidance with cat-astrophe on our Instagram.

Celebrate With Learning

We nurtured some of our best friendships in school. Why not go to school with your pet? Maybe your retriever is already a champion runner but might be looking for some new tricks. Or maybe your poodle could use a few extra lessons in manners.

Whether you’re looking for classes in agility or a behavior class to train a new puppy, taking a hand in helping your dog learn new skills will pay off for them – and you. Those are classes you won’t be ditching.

Celebrate With Charity

The only thing better than one furry friend is two! And we love to encourage people to not only adopt pets from their local shelter when they can but to make sure they are set up for their fur-ever home. We want to find ways for folks to keep their Besties happy and healthy at home, instead – and want to be sure than when folks DO adopt them, they’re committed to a lifelong commitment, without surrender.

That’s why, as part of our Zest Fur Good effort, Zesty Paws is a sponsor of the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando’s annual “Paws in the Park” event, a fundraiser to help support our local animal welfare agency. We love to see the costume contests, pet vendors, dog sports, pet rewards, and our very own Zesty Paws “Keep your Bestie Feeling Zesty” education series.

And this year, as part of the effort in raising awareness, we’re even hosting a Q&A with one of our veterinary experts during the event.

We hope you can come celebrate Pet Month with us in Orlando, but if not, we hope you can support your local shelter with adoptions or donations!

Celebrate Their Health

One of the best ways to show your favorite family member your love (we promise we won’t tell the kids!) is to prevent health issues before they start and treat conditions when they do arise. Finding a vet you trust that your pet adores can be a daunting task, but when you know the right questions to ask, it’s easy.

If the vet recommends functional supplements for certain conditions, make sure you choose a brand that is certified by the National Animal Supplement Council and uses high-quality ingredients, like Zesty Paws. We love your pets as much as we do ours, and we all want to have as many National Pet Months ahead of us as we can. Animal health and pet care are why we’re here!

No matter how you celebrate this year, the most important thing is that you’re safe, healthy, and happy. We’d love to hear about how you and your Zesty Bestie spend your days together.
