3 Best Ingredients to Help with Dog Allergies

Just like us, our furry friends can develop and experience allergies that can be unpleasant and cause discomfort for them. But what are they and how do they affect our fur-besties?

Typically, allergy issues in pets come from sensitivities to their food or environmental factors. While these factors may not necessarily be harmful to dogs, their immune systems can react negatively to them, ultimately causing problems such as:

  • Itchy, runny eyes
  • Sneezing
  • Red inflamed skin
  • Swelling in their face, ears, or eyes
  • Constant licking

When it comes to food allergies, they can develop from almost any ingredient in their food and can trigger at any age. The most common allergens in dog food are usually dairy, wheat, and beef.

That said, determining which ingredient that’s causing an allergic reaction will involve some patience. You will likely have to try an elimination diet to test how they react to different proteins and carbohydrate sources. We also recommend reaching out to your veterinarian for guidance on how to help Fido with food allergies.

But what about those pesky seasonal and environmental allergens?

These can be caused by pollen, grass, weeds, and other factors that are out of our control, especially since keeping Fido in a bubble isn’t much of an option!

But since allergy issues stem from immune systems reacting to various factors, we as pet parents can help Fido find relief by promoting healthy immune function, histamine response, and digestive activity so they can combat them easily. Lucky for him, there are a variety of powerful natural ingredients available to pet parents that can help.

Omega-3 Supplements

Omega-3 fatty acids promote healthy skin for dogs that deal with hot spots and irritation, and can even help with inflammation. Since these fatty acids cannot be produced by the body, they have to be supplied in Fido’s diet.

Bonus: Omega 3 fatty acids also support joint and heart function for Fido. Even more powerful!

Probiotics

Adding probiotics in Fido’s diet may promote a healthy gut by helping to balance the good and bad bacteria. A healthy gut for Fido not only means a stronger immune system and overall tummy comfort, but it may also help reduce those troublesome allergies.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has been around forever and it’s no secret how many benefits it can have for you. But did you know it can also help your dog with their seasonal and environmental allergies? Apple cider vinegar can boost Fido’s immune system and help with digestion.

It’s no fun to see your dog feeling uncomfortable because of seasonal or environmental allergies. That’s why we suggest our Aller-Immune Bites, which combines all three of these powerful ingredients as well as colostrum, and EpiCor®, both of which promote a better immune response and digestive function.

If you have any additional questions or comments on keeping Fido’s environmental allergies at bay, share your thoughts in the comment section below, or reach out to us at (800) 940-1972 or bark@zestypaws.com.

I have a 2 year old mini golden doodle that has the typical poodle eyes that drain. Pawsative Allergy seems to help with that.
She has always been a licker but it has really increased with her licking and chewing her paws. Please let me know what you suggest I might do to help her, thanks.

That’s a great question, Nina! Our products are meant to be able to be combined, so there should generally be no issue using the Aller-Immune Bites and Probiotic Bites together. We do always recommend keeping your veterinarian in the loop when introducing new things to your pup, just to be extra cautious. <3

I have my dog on the aller immune bites but would like to try the probiotic bites. Is it safe to feed them both to her?

My friend gave me the senior mobility bites hip and joint supplement after her senior dog died a few months ago. Our black lab is 13 yrs old, had 2 large litters of puppies when she was younger, and her back leg and hip were hurting quite a bit. Your supplement made a huge difference in her comfort and going up/down stairs. We ran out of the tabs after New Year, and within days Rosie was much more arthritic and stiff. Just joined your reg refill program for senior mobility bites. Thanks for a great product!

Hey, Melissa!

Thank you for sharing that about your fur baby. We are so sorry to hear that she is going through this, especially with no apparent reasoning. I would recommend trying out our Aller-Immune Bites. These work from the inside out to help soothe allergies AND allergy symptoms (like itching). They help by targeting the digestive tract, immune system, AND the skin and coat for an overall approach!

An alternative product I would try is our Pure Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil, which is packed with omega fatty acids that help soothe dryness and irritation in the skin.

I also want to let you know that ALL of our products are backed by a lifetime 100% satisfaction guarantee! If you are ever less than completely satisfied with a purchase from us, simply let us know directly and we would be able to help you out in any way that we can!

I was your reading your site and my dog suffers from allergies. However, it doesn’t seem to be environmental, seasonal or any of the symptoms you have listed. She started to lose hair after a trip on the west coast. I thought maybe stress from the trip or salt from the sea. After a while, she started to chronically itch to where she would scab up or bleed. The vet said it may be mites and we did some treatment (orally) for that. When tested, there were no mites. Then, they put her on Apoquel and we waited to see if it may be seasonal. After we went from summer to winter, it has not stopped. The Apoquel works great but lately she is itching a bit while taking the pills so I am hoping she is not developing an immunity to them. I am looking at switching vets because they are not very responsive in other areas as well. We did some time ago, change her food from the Blue Buffalo to Purina, hoping to have a change. That did not work. Any ideas? Thanks for your time. Melissa
