Frozen treats are one of the best things about summertime, so why not let your furry friend in on the fun? To keep Fido comfortable on those hot summer days, we have five refreshing frozen treat recipes that your dog will love.
Here’s a few quick tips before we begin:
- Try out these treats in moderation at first to make sure your dog’s tummy adjusts well.
- Not all Greek yogurts and peanut butter products are made equal. So, be sure your choices do not contain Xylitol, which is not a pet-friendly ingredient.
- You can use ice cube trays for these frozen treats, but we recommend a silicone mold because they’re easier to pop out for that on-demand pup cooling. Plus, who doesn’t love a cute bone or paw shaped treat?
There are a lot of great recipes that involve a little more time and effort, but we’re sticking to the easiest treats you can try to keep your pup cool this summer. Let’s begin!
Cucumber Watermelon Frozen Treat
Since watermelon and cucumber are mostly water, this two-ingredient recipe is a great way to keep your four-legged friend refreshed and hydrated.
Ingredients:
3 cups of seedless watermelon
1 medium cucumber
Directions:
- Peel the skin from the cucumber and remove the seeds with a spoon.
- Cut the watermelon and remove the seeds.
- Blend the cucumber and watermelon until smooth.
- Add mixture to molds and freeze 3-4 hours.
- For a fancier look to your treats, blend the watermelon first, fill the mold 75% and freeze. Once frozen, blend the cucumber, top off the mold and freeze again.
Frozen Blueberry Treats
Blueberries are a great source of antioxidants and fiber; and with the great taste of these berries, we’re pawsitive these will be a hit with your pup!
Ingredients:
1 cup of Greek yogurt
¼ cup of fresh blueberries
Directions:
- Add blueberries and Greek yogurt and blend until smooth.
- Pour mixture to molds or ice cube tray and freeze. If it’s too thick, add a little water for better consistency.
Peanut Butter Banana Frozen Treats
We have yet to meet a pup that doesn’t love peanut butter! These frozen treats are simple to make and they have the added benefit of coconut oil. Coconut oil provides natural nourishment for your furry friend to support digestion, immune support, healthy skin, and sleek coats!
Ingredients:
1 cup of peanut butter
1 cup of coconut oil
1 banana
Directions:
- Measure 1 cup of coconut oil and place in mixing bowl. This will allow the coconut oil to soften while you’re preparing the rest of the recipe.
- Peel and cut the banana into smaller pieces and add to the mixing bowl, along with 1 cup of peanut butter.
- Mix, add to your molds, and freeze until solid!
Strawberry Apple Frozen Treats
We know how much our fur friends love peanut butter, so we couldn’t resist another treat with peanut butter in it. This great recipe includes berries and an apple for a little sweetness!
Ingredients:
8 medium strawberries
1 medium apple
1-2 tbsp peanut butter
Splash of water
Directions:
- Remove stalks from strawberries and blend until smooth.
- Fill each mold halfway with blended strawberries.
- Peel the apple, remove the core, and chop.
- Blend apple and peanut butter with a splash of water until smooth.
- Fill the rest of your molds with mixture and freeze for at 5 hours.
Frozen Chicken Raspberry Treats
Bone-based broths have healthy amino acids as well as calcium and potassium, so this treat is going to have tons of perks for your pup! But if you don’t want to make your own, you can use a high-quality bone broth from your local grocery store, or also a bone broth product made specifically for pet nutrition.
Ingredients:
1 cup of chicken bone broth
1 cup fresh raspberries
Directions:
- Mash up the raspberries and add the chicken bone broth.
- Mix or blend until everything is evenly combined.
- Pour into mold and freeze for a minimum of 4 hours.
